Our Technologies

At Strathcona Dental Clinic, we are proud to utilize some of the latest and most innovative dental technology available! Our dentists understand that modern dental equipment and treatment techniques are continually evolving. At our South Edmonton dental office, Drs. Wehbe and Laatsch strive to incorporate the latest advancements and technologies into our practice to help make every dentist appointment fast, comfortable and effective for our patients.

Your next dental treatment at Strathcona Dental Clinic may include any of the following technologies:

Digital Radiographs (X-Rays)

At Strathcona Dental Clinic, we take x-rays using digital radiography equipment. There are many benefits to digital x-rays, including faster imaging as they require just seconds to take and can be enlarged for better viewing. Digital x-rays use even less radiation than the old-style film, making them healthier for our patients and even healthier for the environment, as as no chemicals are required to process them.

CBCT Scans

A CBCT Scan is simply a 3D x-ray. CBCT Scans use dental cone beam computed tomography, a specialized type of x-ray equipment, to take images. CBCT scans provide a fast, non-invasive, low-radiation way of answering many clinical questions, and provide detailed information in the form of 3D imaging. CBCT images can help with diagnosis, treatment, planning, and evaluation. Your dentist may prescribe a CBCT scan before surgery, extractions, and dental implant placement, among other reasons.

X-Guide

Need dental implant placement? Our dentists will deliver with precision, using the X-Guide 3D navigation system. Similar to using a GPS while driving, the X-Guide provides real-time interactive guidance of drill-position during dental implant placement. At Strathcona Dental Clinic, this state-of-the-art technology allows your dentist the ability to improve precision and accuracy of implant position, angle, and depth.

The X-Guide translates the digital treatment planned on 3D CT scans on the computer directly to the patient’s mouth in real-time. The process involves first taking a 3D scan with a small plastic cup placed over the patient’s mouth. The scan is then used to undertake digital treatment planning and virtual implant surgery. The digital treatment plan is then transferred to the X-guide unit, which guides your surgeon to place the dental implant in the exact planned position at the right angle and depth with exceptional accuracy.

Dental Lasers

At Strathcona Dental Clinic, we have invested in dental lasers to assist our team with certain soft tissue procedures. We may use the dental laser to help us quickly, effectively cut through soft tissue or to trim back overgrown gums around a tooth for cosmetic purposes. When dental care is delivered with dental lasers, patients can expect to experience almost no bleeding and very little pain or swelling during the procedure.

Carivu™

Carivu™ is a compact and portable detection device that uses transillumination technology to support the identification of occlusal, interproximal, and recurrent various lesions and cracks. This new approach uses an intraoral scanner to support and identify cavities, tooth decay, lesions, and cracks; the enamel appears transparent, exposing the tooth structure for any developing problems. This easy-to-use transillumination technology captures images that are displayed on a screen so the patient can see which part of the mouth needs more attention and make informed decisions and choices about getting the necessary dental treatment. The equipment releases non-ionizing radiation, which ensures safety to pregnant women, children, medically compromised patients, or any x-ray-averse patient.

Airflow

At Strathcona Dental Clinic, airflow technology allows us to offer cleaner teeth, in less time, with a more comfortable treatment compared to traditional polishing paste. The airflow combines fine powder with warmed water into a gentle cleaning spray. The powder comes in natural forms composed of either protein or non-harmful sugar molecules. Airflow technology is also unrivaled for dental implant maintenance; specialized tips can be gently placed alongside your implants to debride titanium, leaving your replacement teeth refreshed!

Trios 5 Scanner

Strathcona Dental Clinic is pleased to use the new TRIOS 5 dental scanner, making scanning safer, easier and more precise than ever before. It is the lightest and smallest scanner to date and is made to fit easily and comfortably in every hand, allowing for an easy and fast patient experience.

At Strathcona Dental Clinic, we care about a good scan experience and want to get it perfect the first time. With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), the TRIOS 5 Scanner produces a 3D model that continuously generates the most updated information for a result that is as high quality and as close to perfect as possible. Precise digital impressions support treatment options that you will be happy with, providing scans as accurate as conventional impressions, or even more so! The TRIOS 5 sets a new standard for patient protection and infection control as well. We like to call it ‘hygienic by design.’ It is easy to clean because it hardly has any openings or crevices, including a closed autoclave tip, meaning a safer and more hygienic experience for you. The TRIOS 5 is FDA cleared too, for further peace of mind.

Velscope

Velscope offers powerful FDA-approved technology for assistance in the discovery of oral tissue abnormalities. It provides dentists with another examination tool to help detect oral tissue changes at their earliest stages. It consists of a lamp, which emits a safe, visible blue light into the oral cavity, which excites the oral tissue and causes it to fluoresce, highlighting cell changes that sometimes cannot be seen with the naked eye. When used in conjunction with traditional oral cancer examination procedures, the Velscope facilitates the early discovery and visualization of mucosal abnormalities, including oral cancer. With no rinses or stains required in one or two minutes, a Velscope system examination helps healthcare professionals assess their patients’ oral soft tissue health.
