Technology

We are Proud to Utilize some of the Most Innovative Dental Technology Available!

In dentistry, equipment and techniques are continually evolving. At Strathcona Dental Clinic, Drs. Wehbe and Laatsch strive to incorporate the latest advancements and technologies into our practice. Here is a sample of some of the technology available at our office.

Digital Radiographs (X-Rays)

Operatory Suite | Strathcona Dental Clinic | General & Family Dentist | South Edmonton

At Strathcona Dental Clinic, we use digital radiography (x-rays) equipment. There are many benefits to digital x-rays. They require seconds to take and can be enlarged for better viewing. The radiation dose with these x-rays is even less than the old-style film. They are even good for the environment, as no chemicals are required to process them.

CBCT Scans

CBCT Machine | Strathcona Dental Clinic | General & Family Dentist | South Edmonton

A CBCT Scan is simply a 3D x-ray. CBCT Scans use dental cone beam computed tomography, a specialized type of x-ray equipment, to take images. CBCT scans provide a fast, non-invasive, low radiation way of answering many clinical questions and provides 3D information rather than 2D (like traditional x-rays offer), which can help with diagnosis, treatment, planning, and evaluation. Your dentist may prescribe a CBCT scan before surgery, extractions, implant placement, among other reasons.

X-Guide

X-Guide Navigation System | Strathcona Dental Clinic | General & Family Dentist | South Edmonton

X-Guide is a 3D navigation system, similar to using a GPS while driving, that provides real-time interactive guidance of drill-position during dental implant placement. This state-of-the-art technology allows your dentist the ability to improve precision and accuracy of implant position, angle, and depth, by translating the digital treatment planned on 3D CT scans on the computer directly to the patient’s mouth in real-time, with great The process involves first taking a 3D scan with a small plastic cup placed over the patient’s mouth. The scan is then used to undertake digital treatment planning and virtual implant surgery. The digital treatment plan is then transferred to the X-guide unit, which guides the surgeon to place the dental implant in the exact planned position at the right angle and depth with great accuracy.

Dental Lasers

Several laser types are used in dentistry, ranging from lasers for tooth whitening and restorative procedures to soft tissue procedures. At Strathcona Dental Clinic, we have added lasers to assist us with certain soft tissue procedures. We may use it to cut through soft tissue or to trim back overgrown gums around a tooth for aesthetic reasons. With lasers, there is almost no bleeding and very little pain or swelling associated with the procedure.

Carivu™

Carivu is a compact and portable detection device that uses transillumination technology to support the identification of occlusal, interproximal, and recurrent various lesions and cracks. This new approach uses an intraoral scanner to support and identify cavities, tooth decay, lesions, and cracks; the enamel appears transparent, exposing the tooth structure for any developing problems. This easy-to-use transillumination technology captures images that are displayed on a screen so the patient can see which part of the mouth needs more attention and make informed decisions and choices about getting the necessary treatment. The equipment releases non-ionizing radiation, which ensures safety to pregnant women, children, medically compromised patients, or any X-ray-averse patient.

Airflow

Airflow One | Strathcona Dental Clinic | General & Family Dentist | South Edmonton

This technology replaces the polishing paste and rotating hand piece. It combines fine powder with warmed water into a gentle cleaning spray. The powder comes in natural forms composed of either protein or non-harmful sugar molecules. We expect cleaner teeth, in less time, in a more comfortable way. This technology is also unrivaled for implant maintenance. Specialized tips can be gently placed alongside implants to debride titanium.

Velscope

VELscope | Strathcona Dental Clinic | General & Family Dentist | South Edmonton

Velscope offers powerful FDA-approved technology for assistance in the discovery of oral tissue abnormalities. It provides dentists with another examination tool to help detect oral tissue changes at their earliest stages. It consists of a lamp, which emits a safe, visible blue light into the oral cavity, which excites the oral tissue and causes it to fluoresce, highlighting cell changes that sometimes cannot be seen with the naked eye. When used in conjunction with traditional oral cancer examination procedures, the Velscope facilitates the early discovery and visualization of mucosal abnormalities, including oral cancer. With no rinses or stains required in one or two minutes, a Velscope system examination helps healthcare professionals assess their patients’ oral soft tissue health.
