Edmonton Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Your Choice for Edmonton Wisdom Teeth Removal!

Wisdom Teeth Extraction | Strathcona Dental Clinic | General & Family Dentist | South Edmonton

While some people are lucky enough to have plenty of room in their mouth for their wisdom teeth to erupt properly and not affect any of their other teeth, others are not as fortunate. In many cases, inadequate space in the mouth does not allow wisdom teeth to erupt correctly and become fully functional. The concern with partially erupted teeth is that they are more difficult to maintain and can easily become decayed or infected. It is best not to wait until they have caused a problem.

What are Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom Teeth Extraction | Strathcona Dental Clinic | General & Family Dentist | South Edmonton

Located in the very back of your mouth, wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars to erupt. They usually come in around the age of 17, though they can erupt anytime between the ages of 14-30. Some people never get a full set of wisdom teeth, while wisdom teeth grow fully and function properly for others. Most commonly, though, wisdom teeth erupt partially and stop.

We advise parents to bring their young teens in for a comprehensive dental check-up/exam, including digital x-rays, to assess their wisdom teeth’ health and eruption pattern.

Why Might Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Removed?

Wisdom Teeth Extraction | Strathcona Dental Clinic | General & Family Dentist | South Edmonton

Not all wisdom teeth need to be removed. Wisdom teeth will be considered for removal if they are causing damage to adjacent structures, there are signs that they will compromise your oral health, or if they are causing you pain and/or discomfort of any kind. Your dentist will often recognize that your wisdom teeth will become problematic before they actually do, and so will recommend preventative removal before the roots are fully developed.

It is always better to be proactive when it comes to your health. If you are experiencing any pain when chewing, or discomfort of any kind, or swelling, call Strathcona Dental at (780) 433-1154 to see if wisdom tooth removal is the best option for you.
