Tooth & Wisdom Tooth Removal at Our Edmonton Dental Clinic
At Strathcona Dental Clinic in South Edmonton, we work very hard to help you maintain the best possible oral health however, some conditions require tooth extraction. When we do have to resort to teeth removal, we can assure you a safe and comfortable procedure with anesthetic and if required, sedation. We understand procedures at the dentist can be worrisome and we work with you to help ease your anxiety.
Situations That May Require Teeth Removal
While we work hard to help you keep a healthy mouth, there are times when teeth removal is the best solution for your overall health. Some of these include:
- Fractured teeth that are not repairable
- Decay that has destroyed too much of the tooth
- Bone loss due to gum disease
- Impacted teeth or those that block other teeth
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Some people are lucky enough that their wisdom teeth come up straight and have plenty of room in the mouth that they don't affect their other teeth. Unfortunately, many more people have impacted wisdom teeth or not enough room for them to come in without crowding their other teeth. In these cases, wisdom tooth removal is necessary before greater problems arise.
Wisdom teeth usually come in around the age of 17 and to avoid misalignment of the rest of their teeth, we advise parents to bring their young teens for a comprehensive dental check up / exam including digital x-rays so we can determine if oral surgery is required for the tooth extraction.
Your Comfort Matters
Before teeth removal, your Strathcona Dental team will talk to you about the procedure and any concerns you may have. Based on that information, we'll determine whether anesthetic alone or the addition of sedatives are required. During the procedure, we will make sure you are comfortable every step of the way so your experience is the best it can be during a tooth extraction.
To speed up healing, you may wish to opt for platelet rich fibrin (PRF) treatment. Using your own blood and a centrifuge, platelets, fibrin and white blood cells are concentrated and applied to extraction site. Since these are the components of your blood that help generate tissue, the application speeds healing.
Strathcona Dental Clinic invites you to contact us for a dental check up / exam to determine if you require tooth extraction or if you wish to be considered for PRF treatment after your extraction.
